| Hi all is the first time I write in this forum ... I introduce myself my name is salvatore I'm 25 and I'm Italian excuse my ignorance ... I am using a translator to write ... I am a fan of motor racing 2t a few years ago a friend I like to plan and prepare for the Italian league vespa engine acceleration. after trying some tuning kit wasp we decided to build something more powerful and (craft) so we built the first prototype engine with 150cc rotax 122 cylinder bored to 58mm stroke 56mm Rod 110mm with this engine we raced the 2012 season we have reached the power of 33hp [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir cette image]for the 2013 season we wanted to exaggerate ... heheh we are preparing a vane motor to the casing with cylinder designed by us with inner diameter 58mm Aprilia RSW 56mm stroke [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir cette image]you comments and suggestions! |

- Welcome on board, tore87!
thanks to everyone for the compliments! the engine is still in the process of assembling ... I hope to exceed 40 hp! I hope to have made the right choice ... has anyone tried to mount a thermal Aprilia RSW with suction reed valve? some have told me that not good .... but I wanted to try .... (I hope you understand my English ....) today I finished milling the crankcase ... [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir cette image]then we did a test assembly to fix the pipes of the radiator and to make the shock absorber back ... [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir cette image]we are missing to weld the muffler measures as I plan to use those of the Aprilia RSW you say you are fine even though it is a reed? |

| Why are you covering the crankshaft?
I have seen that on TZ 125, but not on Honda or Aprilia |

| There certainly are persons on this forum better informed to answer your question of applying the Aprillia cylinder to a reed valve inducted case. However experience with similar applications has shown me to expect a loss of peak power. In contrast to this expected loss. When the output is measured by acceleration, some of that loss can be recovered by tuning for a wider power band. If indeed your application can make use of a wider power band, try using a small aerodynamic reed cage to keep the cage velocity as hi as possible, While also favoring a cage with a small number of petals. If your transmission requires keeping the torque peak power as hi as possible, opt for a larger cage with a larger number of petals, as well as more included angle. Of course any cage of a given size will benefit from being optimized for flow. Those points being made with the extent of rotary valve based R&D of the Aprillia cylinder, one could only expect that development of an equally competitive reed valve would require at least the same extent of R&D. Personally if measured at the same RPM I would expect an optimized reed valve to obtain peak hp that is a minimum of 4 to 6 bhp less than that of the rotary valve. My opinion only. Kermit Buller Best of luck with your project. |

I have seen that on TZ 125, but not on Honda or Aprilia hello I decided to cover the crankshaft to do an experiment ... I saw that some kart engines do ... them, however, have the problem that the shaft rotates against the aspiration ... since I redid the full the whole upper part of the cover it seemed logical to try this! if it does not work that way I can mill away and becomes an engine like honda gp ... for now I feel like that! |

| tore87.... You have a well thought out project. The reed cage looks like a very good choice. What type of transmission drive does your application use, a centrifugal clutch, belt, disc, or manual clutch. There are a lot of questions I have, but don't wish to over indulge my welcome.
After doing an internet search for accessories for vespa competition. I need to ask for an excuse of my ignorance... it is amazing how advanced the market is. Wanting to learn more, is anyone able to suggest a forum where technical information on related equipment is discussed?

| tore87 Is the clutch wet or dry? Is it mounted directly on the crankshaft? What kind of engagement rpm's can it withstand until it's efficiency goes away? Is there an option to modify the clutch to function as both manual and centrifugal? Is it correct to assume that in addition to the clutch there is a manual transmission. Or is there a CVT belt system? I don't mean to ask what is the obvious to you. Just very curious. Kermit Buller |
