Magneti Marelli: works rant because standard ECU!
Günther Wiesinger 01.03.13-01:03

The introduction of single-electronics from Magneti Marelli is a major bone. What the Italians up to?

In the MotoGP manufacturers Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Ducati reigns huge excitement because they have to use the 2014 all electronic hardware by Magneti Marelli for which they are to write their own software.

This season, the Claiming Rule Teams, as Avintia-Blusens, Forward Racing, Iodaracing and Paul Bird Motorsport use (there only Michael Laverty) the complete ECU from Magneti Marelli - ie hardware and software. A set of this package is free for any private team and is called AGO-340.

Such a kit includes: ECU, dashboard and a tilt sensor.

All spare parts and wear parts for bench tests have to be bought expensively, for the software there are only two license keys for each driver.

The electronics of the CR teams have been at the first Sepang test (5th to February 7th) complains that Magneti Marelli has insufficient algorithms for a high-end motorcycle control.

Because the algorithms are written, for example, the electronic Yamaha belong Yamaha. Incidentally, as an algorithm is defined as any program that einspielt a technician to a computer. In a race bike it comes to programs (in employment benefits you as Word, Excel, Photo Shop) for Traction Control, Wheelie Control and so on.

To facilitate collection of data or the parameterization must take care of each CR team itself, even if mitliefern Magneti Marelli Grundbedatungen could. The result: Colin Edwards lost the first test almost two full days, Michael Laverty on the second.

Analogy: In Word, there is text suggestions for dismissal, a letter, an application and so on. A parameterization for example, would the personal termination ....

Magneti Marelli currently boasts with data and programs over which they do not have.

Take the wheelie control as an example. A simple system would just castrate the power as soon as the front wheel is lifted off the ground and release the power again only when the front wheel contact with the ground. Intelligent Wheelie Control takes away less power, so that the front wheel is always remains approximately five centimeters above the ground. «How to do that, the algorithm is called" states Data Recording Professor Dirk Debus of the company 2D.

The Magneti Marelli engineers were once suspected to have dusted expertise at companies like Yamaha and then passed on to counterparties.
Yamaha programmed since all the software itself precaution, Suzuki is working with Mitsubishi Electronics. Honda also uses an in-house Elekronik; Aprilia is doing likewise. "We will now pass on our accumulated know-how of Magneti Marelli," laments a renowned MotoGP electronics, which the Italian Corrado Cecchinelli, the Director of Technology at hinstellt Dorna as a scapegoat. Because the Italian has to answer for this nonsense with the standard ECU.

Magneti Marelli is now being accused of wanting to possess through the publication of free hardware cost the knowhow of all works.

Except Cecchinelli nobody understands the meaning of this arcane deals, he has since threaded with Magneti Marelli. Even with the standard ECU for the Moto3 World Championship, which also happens to come from an Italian producer (Dell'Orto), criticizing Cecchinelli became loud.

"By saving money, the idea of a standard ECU to do in any case nothing," raves one critic. "In my view, Magneti Marelli will simply tap into knowledge and then offer the world's best motorcycle control."

"The consideration offered for the Claiming Rule Team-ECU is located in a very banal state," complained a CR technicians. Can, "Such a device you buy for 2000 to 4000 Euros. It will therefore save money. "

So that we really understand: Magneti Marelli has a very good hardware, the device itself is good. But the software shall have to get the team itself. Besides others, the story is unmasked with the free long ECU: Magneti Marelli demanded 12,000 for each additional unit.

"If Magneti Marelli has even figured out how to make algorithms, this software can be copied any number of times. Then it costs them the same amount, whether these data are then transmitted to a computer or to ten ", told us an electronics specialist.

The teams accuse Cecchinelli he was overbearing and arrogant and did not listen to objections of substance.

Particularly annoyed the Suzuki engineers. They have in fact for the MotoGP return since developed with Mitsubishi a bespoke engine control for the new four-cylinder. 2014 to go with the Magneti Marelli hardware would require that all programs will be rewritten. The costs incurred in the interest anyone Dorna. Cecchinelli obviously much less.

It is common knowledge that a race bike of the dynamics here is not significantly different from a road bike. In any case, much less than a Formula 1 car on a street car. Therefore be worth the engineering hours that are spent in the motorcycle manufacturers for their own software, at any time. Mitsubishi, for example, would have only a slightly scaled-down version of the MotoGP electronics for a wheelie control on the Suzuki GSX-R develop the 1000th How about BMW has lead by example with the wheelie control on the S 1000RR.

The works speak of a great injustice and a slap in the face, if the standard ECU is mentioned. Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Ducati costs of switching to the Magneti Marelli hardware a fortune.

Ducati technician Roberto Cane has already announced that he would not use, for example, offered by Marelli dashboard. Because of the Ducati-developed series dashboard costs because of the large numbers only around 60 euros. The teams assess, Marelli will ask for your dashboard more than 1000 euros.

Bof.

You're welcome, chef! :p

Very Happy Progresser?) avec mon petit niveau.
